VACANT POSITION: Research assistant position within the WWTF-Project of Aesthetic Effects of Lines and Colors

About the project:

The project is a collaboration between art historians and psychologists. In the project we are interested in testing art historical theories on aesthetic effects empirically. Here we mainly focus on the influence of lines and colors on the viewer as well as their contribution to the painting as a whole.

To understand these effects better we also look at the influence of individual difference such as knowledge of art and culture (Austria vs. Japan).

Your tasks:

In this position you would be responsible for assisting in the empirical research activities in the project. Your tasks will mainly comprise the planning of lab studies and the testing of participants. There is also the possibility to gain programming experience or to work on data analysis.

We also offer the possibility to be present in the project meetings (where we discuss with the art historians) as well as the opportunity to take part in the weekly lab meeting of the EVA-lab.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who is flexible, can work independently and that has experience and interest in doing empirical research.

Since the position is only for 10hrs a week it is important to be flexible. You would be responsible to manage the testing mainly on your own which is why the ability to work independently is important. Since all associated tasks require research skills we require experience as well as interest.

The position (starting September 25 or October 1, 2017) is limited to 6 months, there is a possibility to extend the contract afterwards.

To apply, please send your CV and a motivation letter to: eva.specker@univie.ac.at

Applications can be submitted in English or German.

The deadline is the September 4, 2017.
