Reading in the city

What does attract our attention when we walk in a city? Do we read what is attracting though beautiful design? In collaboration with  graphic designers we plan laboratory and field studies. If you are interested, please send an email to Helmut.leder@univie.ac.at

Eye-movements in art-viewing

How similarly do different people look at any given art-work? This seemingly simple question does not have a simple answer, despite the common use eye-tracking in empirical aesthetics. This project investigates methods to quantify the similarity of  eye-movement comparison. The goal is to compare fixations and saccades with various methods for different types of artworks (eg: abstract, figural paintings, photos), and groups (eg: age, gender) on existing datasets. How do behave when looking at (real) art?

Description: What happens when we enter a room with artworks? Which artwork grabs our attention? How do we look at the artworks? What are the challenges with mobile eye-tracking? And how can we find creative ways to analyze the data? These are some of the questions that you will be able to explore in this masterthesis project.
